Apprenticeship Mentor Opportunity

The Apprentice Mentor will work as a part of a team delivering the Apprenticeships New Anglia service across Suffolk or Norfolk. You will work in local education settings supporting young people into Apprenticeships. You will also engage with the local business community to identify and support businesses who wish to take on an apprentice.

This post is funded by the European Social Fund.

To provide or offer appropriate support and assistance to individuals (including vulnerable young people), school staff, training providers, public sector staff and support organisations about accessing and taking up apprenticeships. The Apprentice Mentor will work with a caseload of young people in schools to identify and support young people who wish to embark on Apprenticeships and ease the transitional period between education and the labour market.

To provide and offer appropriate support and assistance to a placement within local business focussed organisations. The Apprentice Mentor will work with local businesses and across their supply chains to identify and support businesses who wish to take on an apprentice, offering them additional support and assistance through the wider team.

• Work with a caseload of schools, working with established staff members such as careers leads and other activities taking place within schools (e.g. Enterprise Adviser Networks) to identify individuals that wish to pursue an Apprenticeship

• Attend Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) events within the schools

• Support students into Apprenticeships/further learning

• Contact local Small/Medium employers (with less than 250 employees and a turnover of less than £39million) to promote the benefits of employing an apprentice

• Contribute to the development of a support package designed for SMEs including; apprentice mentoring skills, mental health first aid awareness, work place health and safety and safeguarding

• Liaise with the project team and its partners and SMEs to arrange Apprenticeship interviews, opportunities to engage with schools, access to the SME support package, work experience placements and Apprenticeship Ambassador meetings

• Visit local SMEs to attend meetings/presentations regarding the benefits to employing or hosting an apprentice

Desired qualifications
• Good general standard of education (4 x GCSEs or equivalent at Grade 4/C or above including English and maths)
• You must have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle
