What will the apprentice be doing on site

Groundworkers operate on construction sites, working with concrete, bricks and blocks as required, laying drainage & pavements and excavating holes and trenches. This apprenticeship includes work on site and college-based learning. The college aspect is likely to be on a block release basis. This means spending longer periods at college periodically throughout the year. (It may mean that you will be expected to stay away from home in accommodation provided).

Responsibilities will include:
• Operating and working alongside heavy plant / machinery
• Water management
• Understanding types of ground and materials.
• Understanding technical drawings
• Instillation of utilities
• Building commercial foundations

What sort of candidate are you looking for

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate good communication skills as they will be working as a part of a team. They must also be able to follow directions accurately and be able to complete task in a timely manner. You must be able to lift, bend and undertake manual work and use relevant equipment. An awareness of health and safety is essential.
The successful candidate needs to be willing and prepared to undertake outside work in all weather conditions.
While it would be desirable for the successful candidate to be able to drive, it is essential that the successful candidate is able to travel to various site locations.

Qualifications Required

4 GCSE with grade A*-D / 9-3, or equivalents.

The successful candidate will also be required to take and pass a Drug and Alcohol test and the CSCS test as a condition of any offer of employment.
